Here are some links to a few websites that contain resources you might find useful.
Most of this is FREE.

Name Link Description
Picasa http://picasa.google.com/ Picasa is a great piece of free software from Google to help you organise and, if necessary, modify your photos. It will find pictures that you have put on your computer and then lost!
Google Pack http://pack.google.com Picasa is part of the 'Google Pack'. My advice is not to download the lot - just what you actually need.. but its all free!
AVG Free version http://free.grisoft.com This is an excellent free anti virus package.. and yes it really is free for private individuals.
AVG Commercial version http://www.grisoft.com If you need a copy of AVG for your company or business use please contact us for a quote. It's much cheaper than the two brand leaders!
Windows Defender Windows Defender The Free anti spyware program from Microsoft. It comes as standard in Windows Vista, but if you have XP you can download it anyway. Automaticaly checks your system and updates its definitions regularly.
Adobe http://www.adobe.com Follow the link on the Adobe home page to Downloads. Most computer users will need Adobe reader (pdf reader), Flash Player and Shockwave Player - all free.
Apple http://www.apple.com or http://www.apple.com/downloads Apple are the producers of some great software. The downloads site has links for iTunes (music player) Quicktime (movie player) and of course the iTunes store where you can buy and download music.
Open Office http://www.openoffice.org/ Open Office is the main alternative to Microsoft Office. It has a spreadsheet, a word processor, etc etc and its pretty much compatible with MS Word and Excel for normal use. It is free to use but be careful - its a huge download. Don't even think about it unless you are on broadband.
Sun http://www.sun.com/ Follow the link for 'Java' which many websites now use. Once installed Java will prompt you to update as required.
IrfanView http://www.irfanview.com/ The neatest little free graphics package you'll ever come across! Lets you convert pictures from one format to another, resize, crop, batch rename etc etc. Its a tiny little download and installs in seconds! My personal preference is NOT to install the Google toolbar at the same time.
Avery http://www.avery.com/ Avery - the people who make sticky labels etc publish a great little program called Avery Wizard. It integrates with Word and Excel to greatly simplify the production of labels. Great for Christmas card lists!
(Registration required)
Crucial http://www.crucial.com Memory specialists. On their web site you can get your PC scanned and the memory upgrade you need will be worked out. Their prices are pretty good and delivery (which is often free) is quick too. Make sure you click on the Union Jack before you start to get prices in pounds not dollars.
Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ If you want to record and edit your own sound tracks this is the software you need.
